Virtual Move, Anthologies, and Holidays

How do you like my new digs?

I have spent most of the past week dealing with two virtual moves. I was on WordPress.com, but am now on a site I own! Yay! Love the dot-com, but it is very limited. Also moved the hubby to his new virtual home. Both are still works in progress, but it’s been fun. And stressful. And I’m sure there are things I’ve forgotten!

What’s New and Coming Up

I am also going to be participating in several new things. The first is the Insecure Writer’s Support Group monthly blog hop. These are usually more essay than fiction, but there’s been poems and fiction at times. I hope you enjoy the first post coming December 5th!

What is Speculative Fiction? According to Wikipedia: Speculative fiction is a broad category of narrative fiction that includes elements, settings, and characters created out of imagination and speculation and not based on reality and everyday life. It encompasses the genres of science fiction, fantasy, science fantasy, horror, alternative history, and magic realism. (Paranormal and supernatural stories welcomed and/or romance, mystery, thrillers with those elements.)
I will also be sending in a submission for a group work (anthology is the fancy term) which has an open call. Do you write speculative fiction? Then go over here and read the post to see if you want to submit! The hubby already has his idea half mapped out. You know I’m jealous!

Third, I am going to do a monthly Facebook Live Q&A session. the first one is on December 1. Get your “tickets” at my Eventbrite event. It’s totally free. I am using this to give people a chance to send me the questions in advance in case they can’t make it. Gotta love #replays!

Finally! I am also doing a second blog hop. It’s a quarterly thing. It is the Story Time Blog Hop! I’m sure you guessed this will be fiction. To be more specific, it’s also speculative fiction (do we have a theme here? Yes!). It’s open submission as well, so you can go here to read the expectations if you want to add yourself to the fun.

Life changes coming up

That was all the fun news. Now the not as fun. The hubby is struggling with his medications right now, so I will be going back to work. I’ve been trying to get disability for about a year, but it’s not working out. The system here in the US isn’t geared to invisible illnesses like migraines, depression, and anxiety. I’ll probably try again in a few years. Right now we need a steady income. Unfortunately, everything is not a nickel these days. I could use your best wishes, etc as I try to do this work thing once again. Hopefully, once I get insurance back, I can bring these headaches down to a dull roar or conqueror them for good.

That being said, I won’t be on social media as much once I get a steady job going. I will still be writing as spoons and life allow. I will also be blogging and sharing cool things I find, as always. I’m not looking forward to this change, but I am looking forward to bring the struggle back to a minimum!

Thanks for being here!

I’m glad you’re here. If you read this far, thank you! Feel free to let me know your thoughts on all these changes below (or anything else you’d like to talk about!). Congrats on the domain purchase! Your blog is looking good.

I’m sorry the US system isn’t ideal for what you and your husband need right now. It took my uncle 3 years to get disability and by then he was more-or-less on his death bed. 🙁 I sincerely hope things work out better for you and your husband and that you both are able to get and afford the medications you need when you need them.

Best of luck on your hunt for a job! I hope you find something that will suit you and your needs.

Thanks, Mandy. We’ve got him covered, and our state gets expanded Medicare starting first of the year, so it should get easier–even if we’ve not found jobs or gotten any good news on disability by then! I’m just hoping to find anything within my abilities job-wise for now. Unfortunately, I’ve been super low on spoons lately. But I believe it will work out because everything happens for a reason.
